The Beauty of A Sunset

Hello lovely people! May is here- and I’m ready for the flowers that bloom during this time. Before we begin, I want you to know that this post was inspired by the power outage my town faced earlier this week. I hope you enjoy it!

I love to watch the sunset. I mean, it’s simply gorgeous, right?  There are the pinks, blues, and purples as the sun is setting and it’s a breathtaking sight to behold as the sun seems to sink into the earth.

But, just as there are sunsets in real life, there are also sunsets in our own lives. You see, sometimes God allows some things in our lives to set-  like relationships, feelings, and even the loss of something or someone.

When that happens, it can leave you feeling sad, depressed, and lonely. And just like you may have, I too have wondered why God has allowed certain things to end in my life. As I have matured in Christ, He has revealed unto me why. And I want to share them with you.

You see, the sun is big, yellow, and round- giving us all the needed light we need to survive. It helps us to see and it sometimes can be a point of focus for us- as we naturally gravitate towards a point of light in our lives. But, if you look at the sun too closely, it can blind you.

Just like the literal sun in the sky can blind you, some ‘suns’ in our lives have the same capability. When we  allow these suns to become out point of focus, we are participating in idolatry.  When this happens, God will allow that specific sun to set in our lives, because He can not be number two.

When the sun has set- we are left in complete and utter darkness. And it is in those dark times, that we must rely on God the heaviest. It is in those times that God speaks to us more intimately and more special than ever. And it is in the darkness, that God allows us to see him more clearly than ever before.

Now, how can we see God in complete and utter darkness? The answer to that is in the stars and the moon. It is the moon and the stars that will guide you and show you two distinct things: love and promises.

You see, God made the lesser light to govern the night (Genesis 1:16). This lesser light, being the moon shows God’s unyielding love. The moon isn’t as bright as the sun. Instead, it is well-rounded and gentle, reflecting God’s patience with us (2 Peter 3). God won’t rush our growth. He is ever-present and ever-loving as He deals with us intimately.  During dark times, God will surely guide you with his lesser light as he molds you into the person that He has called you to be.

Now, the stars are different. Because the moon’s light shines on them, they glimmer brightly during dark times. Stars reflect God’s promises (Genesis 15). Because God’s promises are eternal- they will not return void. Take rest as you look at the stars, knowing that if God said He’ll do it- He will- with no if, ands, or buts, about it.

As you look to the moon and stars during dark times, remember that it won’t last forever. God gave us twenty-four hours each day, each with a sunset….and a sunrise.  Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5).

The sun will always rise, in whatever situation God has allowed to set.

So, as this post comes to a close, I want to encourage you all to embrace the sunsets that God has placed in your life. When dark times come, remember God’s promises. Remember that He will guide you. But more importantly, remember that if God allows a specific sun to set, he will allow a brighter sun to rise. For there is utmost beauty in a sunset.

With a new love of sunsets,

Malaysia
