Into the Fog

Hey y’all. Here’s August 2021’s blog post. I hope you all enjoy and find rest here! Now- onto the good stuff….

Yesterday I woke up super early because I wanted to go running. So- at 7:30 AM (on a Saturday!)- I peeled myself from the bed and got dressed. Soon, I was in my car heading to a new running spot I’d never tried before.

Now, this running spot isn’t your regular paved track. Nope- this place had multiple natural trails one could choose. After staring at the map for several seconds, I decided to choose what I assumed to be- the safest trail.

And so I began running. Now, because I was unfamiliar with the area- I had to slow down a few times because I did not know what could be around the corner. And if you know anything about me- I don’t like creepy crawlers– especially when I’m invading their habitat. So I was especially nervous.

However, with no bugs in sight- my journey was smooth. Everything was going well, until I came to a very “sketchy” spot. I remember hesitating as I found myself at a crossroads and I knew I had to choose one way or the other.

I decided to choose the path that I felt my gut was telling me to choose. Trusting my instincts, I turned down the music I had playing on my phone and focused on the path ahead of me. The path was quiet and as I came to the end- I realized that it intersected with a part that I had already traveled. I knew then that I could find my way back.

As I headed back to my car, I heard the Holy Spirit say to me: “As you travel on the path of life- there will be foggy moments. But if you take one step at a time- I’ll show you where you need to go.”

Woah. That literally made me stop in shock- but also smile in gratitude.

You see, life is like running on a trail. Some days there will be clear skies and the birds will be singing happily. And other times, it seems as though fog has set in our lives and we can’t see a thing as we travel on our designated paths. And it is during those foggy times where we must keep going, even if we do not understand the path we have found ourselves on.

If I’m being transparent with you all- God has allowed me to see a lot of foggy seasons. In fact- I’m pretty sure I’m experiencing one now. These are the seasons where I feel as though I’m not certain about what’s ahead. These times give me anxiety to the max, while at the same time teach me things that I did not know I needed.

Stepping into fogginess can be hard because once you’re in it- it seems like the fog wants to seal you in. It’s in the fog that you can’t see clearly and you may feel alone. You may look around and only see your present circumstance- which don’t always look ideal.

The fog also causes you to slow down. You can’t go as fast as you desire because in the fog is unfamiliar territory. Like the new running trail I found myself on- so is the uncomfortableness in the fog.

The fog can look and feel scary. It can even be unfamiliar. But as I pondered on this- God helped me to see that fog is not scary at all. In fact- it’s the exact opposite.

You see- fog is nothing but a dense mist that hovers close to the earth. This means that as you continue your journey through the fog, the more steps you take- the clearer your path becomes. What once looked scary becomes a safe haven. What once seemed uncertain is now filled with purpose.

Above I stated that the fog can cause you to slow down. This is a good thing. Because slowing down will allow you to hear from God in better, bolder, and brighter ways.

Like me, you may be in a foggy season right now. Things may seem scary or uncertain- but as long as you allow God to be the lamp unto your feet- He’ll light your pathway for you (Psalm 119:105). Take heart! God will show us the next step. Rejoice in that!

“…as you continue your journey through the fog, the more steps you take- the clearer your path becomes.”

Now, I know this blog post was short- but I wanted to simply encourage you all today! I desire that you all lean into foggy seasons. They definitely are not ideal- but they too have their purpose. Remember God will never take you to something He can’t carry you through. Rest knowing that He cares for you. I know I am.

With a new love for foggy seasons,

Malaysia.

P.S: I can’t wait to get back on that trail and go running again!
