Hey y’all. So this post is really important to me. And to so many others out there in the world.
Kate Spade died of suicide earlier this week. Tuesday, to be exact. This plain truth really hurt me. Partly because I enjoyed the designs that Kate Spade made. But the other part of me was hurting because she was so successful and so blessed- how could a person with that much under their belt really want to end their life?
The answer to that lingering question is mental health. Mental health is a big issue around the world. It is often seen as a bad thing, yet it is not. Mental health affects more people than you could possibly know. Mental health is important.
As a person myself who struggles with anxiety from time to time, I can tell you that feelings of sadness and not being good enough is real. As I wrote in my blog post, Protecting Your Mental Space, you’ve got to do just that. You have got to protect your mental space. Because your mental space is the gateway to your soul. And if the soul is under attack, everything else is.
So many times in today’s society people want to deny that mental health is a thing. But the truth is that mental health is real. Mental health is very important- so important that people who have mental disorders often want to end their lives because of it. They want to end their lives because they feel that there is no other hope and no one understands.
And yes, not everyone can understand what it feels like to have a mental disorder- but I just ask everyone to please to get educated about it. Inform yourselves so that you can help a friend or a loved one in need. Because one life saved is one more than we could have lost.
And if you know anyone who is struggling so bad they want to end their life- get them some help. Call the national suicide hotline: 1-800-273-8255. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I know this was not a traditional blog post from me, but I really wanted you guys to see what mental health disorders can do to even the most successful and influential people. If it affects them, it surely affects regular everyday people like you and me.
And for those struggling with mental health disorders, I say stay strong. I’ll be praying for you. Stay strong.
But before I go, I leave this Bible verse with you all:
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing…And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.”– 1 Thessalonians 5:11,14 ESV
With love,
Malaysia
